BRAZIL

BOA VISTA

LEMON MERINGUE, GUAVA, GOLDENBERRY NOUGAT

We don't often buy coffee from Brazil, but if we do, you know it's a must-try.  We've established a new connection for premium micro-lots with a focus on regenerative agriculture practices and maximum deliciousness. Fazenda Boa Vista is an aromatic and juicy ride.  We're tasting loads of fruits from lemon meringue to guava to goldenberry and all wrapped up in a nougaty package. This is a coffee that disappears very quickly from your cup, which is always a great sign.

Farm Level

Fazenda Boa Vista is located in Ibiraci, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and is managed by Anderson Monteiro de Andrade, a 47-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm is huge, 900 hectares in total, but only consists of 72 hectares dedicated to growing coffee. It sits at an elevation of 1,100 m.a.s.l., with around 150,000 coffee trees in production growing the typical Red and Yellow Catuaí, Catucai, and IPR 98 varieties.

This Natural lot starts its processing by picking and floating the cherries and leaving them to dry ferment in sealed tanks for up to 36 hours. The cherries are then placed to dry on huge open patios for 12 to 15 days, depending on the weather.

Coffee growing in Brazil is a whole different business, but Anderson managed to maintain it as an "all-hands-on-deck" family enterprise. Together with his 3 siblings, they formed a partnership with the inherited land from their father and began building Fazenda Boa Vista into its current state. With a total of 13 children across all the siblings, they hope eventually that all family members engage in the farm (so far, 3 of them are fully devoted). Nowadays, Fazenda Boa Vista is growing at a steady pace, with the siblings wanting to adopt a regenerative agriculture approach and innovating with new post-harvest management techniques.

The family values sustainable practices, minimizing chemical fertilizers in favor of biological products and composting, promoting soil health and biodiversity. Looking to the future, Anderson hopes to pass on his passion for coffee to his family's next generation, exploring regenerative agriculture to keep their practices progressive and eco-friendly.
